Gumption Fest 2009
GumptionFest Is Back!
The celebration of Sedona’s creative collective is returning for it’s fourth year, and with the advent of so many new community efforts already underway it is expected to be our most successful festival to date. GumptionFest will commence Friday evening, September 4th, continue throughout all day Saturday, and culminate in a community closing ceremony on Sunday, September 6th.
Sedona’s ever-present current of creativity, coupled with the energies of several newly emerging creative entities such as the Sedona Performer’s Guild, Studio Live and the Applaz Singer/Songwriter Contest, promises an even greater abundance of artistic support and sharing.
Still in its planning and preparatory stages, GumptionFest has already scheduled five stages to house musicians and poets from all over Northern Arizona, an art gallery to provide space for the works of countless visual artists, interactive art stations for children, food vendors, craft booths, and has many more offerings yet to be unveiled.
The festival, which in past years has been only a one-day event, will begin on Friday evening, September 4, with performances across all of West Sedona’s nightly stages. The intention behind extending the festival over three days is to involve as many different corners of the community as possible, while offering performers as many avenues of exposure as possible.
“It’s our hope to really bring Sedona alive during the festival. It’s an opportunity for other local venues to be a part of GumptionFest,” says Dylan Jung, Director of GumptionFest, whose creative vision initially brought to light the idea for the festival. After three consecutive years at the helm of the GumptionFest effort, the question begs a fourth time to be discovered and answered: What is GumptionFest for?
The evolution of GumptionFest is constant, like the work of an artist, and this year’s festival continues to take shape. The festival is truly a collective work of many artists, though, and only through the efforts of everyone involved will it continue to be a success. If you are interested in performing or volunteering in any way, please contact GumptionFest at gumptionfest@gmail.com with any thoughts, questions or offerings.
